Bookworms and Books on Wheels

“Our Cyprus - and us, ourselves - need this one thing; maturity”

This was one of my dialectic quotes from the conversation I had with my dear friend and fellow CyBookworm, Marianna Charalampous.

In a lively environment we talked about what dwells within my heart, the answer behind why I write, and much more intellectually stimulating matters.

A thorough interview that decodes me and my truest feelings.

“There is a story in every journey.

At Books on Wheels, this time we meet Stelios Nikolaou, a young writer who moves between poetry, the sea and romance.

We talked about writing, the need to express yourself without filters, the Cypriot identity and how words are born through experiences, images and emotions.

A calm but meaningful conversation for those who feel, write or are looking for their own way of expression.”

On the Grave Travesty That Is Cyprus Untapped

20 | 03 | 2026

Once upon a time, Cyprus was the richest Kingdom in Europe.

Now? The half-occupied island is naught but a shadow of its former self-and Cypriots? We subconsciously know that greatness has been lost, but we don’t comprehend or know how it lives on within us.

Except some of us. Who have stared directly into the eyes of our crying Cryprus, shouting to convey the truth.

That is why I creafted What We Know But Do Not Say. To speak what others have yet to think.

“Our island has seen glorious days, which we cannot imagine today"

Creativity and Structure in Modern Day Limassol

31 | 08 | 2025

When I was a child, I could smell the sea all the way from my village. Such a vivid memory it was - listening to the jet skis and every passing car.

Times have changed though. Now, so many skyscrapers have been built between my house and the sea, despite the 2 km distance between them, that sounds and smells halt much farther. Yet, amidst this chaos, Limassol (And Cyprus in general) hides opportunities one could dare not fathom 2 decades ago.

As much as I am an advocate for innovation and entrepreneurship, I take progress with a grain of salt. I only adore it if done right. That’s why I was approached by one of the most esteemed newspapers in Cyprus, Politis; to discuss about the future of copywriting, Limassol, and yours truly.

“Nikolaou’s journey into the creative sector didn’t follow a traditional path. Trained as a lawyer, he made the switch to full-time writing after publishing two poetry collections and a novel. His legal background sharpened his research and analytical skills, while his literary work honed his storytelling. This unexpected combination landed him a role in the fast-paced world of financial marketing.”

A Radioshow That Halted Time

22 | 03 | 2023

I initially met Andreas Chrystanthou at Marina Chrysi's book presentation. As soon as I shared that I was a writer, he invited me and fellow author, Angelos Sofokleous, to his show.

Yes, the talk took around 2 hours. Yes we spoke 1 more on the dimly lit station at 1 am. Yes, we resumed talking on the parking lot until 2 am, about rebetiko, philosophy, art and life.

Getting To Meet Nisolomou

Brief. Concise. Simple. Substantial.

That’s how I would describe this interview - one of dozens - in Vivlionamon. If you wanted to learn a thing or two about me, while sipping your coffee, this is it the piece I would encourage you to read.

The Unwritten World of Writing

29 | 11 | 2022

Fun fact - when I was in high school, I was doing advanced physics, chemistry, maths, and P.E.

Little did I know, that one of my former colleagues, Andreas Soteriou, would go on to pursue an ambitious career in software engineering, and podcasting.

Together with the passionate team of Basement 4 Streaming, I was invited to speak my heart out on the subject of “Being a young writer in an island that largely does not support writing”.

An intellectual engagement from my early days of writing.

“Stelios Nikolaou, writer, tells us about his personal experiences in the world of writing in Cyprus and Greece, and his journey until he published his first book “Cypriot Eternal Land – Karpasia”. Through a beautiful conversation, he describes what it means to be a young writer, sharing with us this unwritten world of writing, which few of us know, but many of us want to know. “What are the difficulties that a young writer will face?”, “What is the publishing process?”, “Why do writers write?”, “How does one start writing?” and many other questions will be answered and discussed, along with various other interesting discussions. Interesting discussion with host Andreas Sotiriou.”
